BARDSTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT

Do you have what it takes to volunteer at your local fire department?
What do we do?

We respond within the boundaries of our fire protection district, when requested, to emergencies that threaten, or will threaten, life, property, and the environment, but only when sufficient equipment and trained personnel are readily available. Our primary functions include, but are not limited to, fire suppression and control, fire prevention and inspections, control and mitigation of hazardous materials incidents, and the rescue and/or recovery of lost, trapped or otherwise incapacitated persons. We may provide mutual aid in a support role to other fire and emergency services requesting assistance. It is the goal of the department to provide its personnel with the safest possible work environment, highest level of personal protective gear, and provide the training opportunities, and supervision that will make our members effective firefighters at any emergency.
Requirements for becoming a volunteer:
Must be 18 yrs old
Hold a valid KY driver’s license
Have a high school diploma or GED
Be in good physical condition

Previously certified firefighters who wish to join the department can apply at anytime.

The requirements for joining the department for persons who have not been in the fire service previously are currently undergoing changes. Please check back. As soon as those requirements get set, we will post the new guidelines. Thank You.

As a firefighter, you will have to attend 12 trainings throughout the year.

Our normal training nights are the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 6PM-10PM and on Friday mornings from 9AM-11AM.

Run response requirements drop from 20% to 10%. (example: 40 total runs in a month, you must make 4 of them.)
